In recent years a safer alternative to regular tanning using sun-beds or tanning booths has become the way to ensure a tan twelve months of the year. The reason for this is that evidence has proved how damaging to your skin it is to sunbathe regularly and the more at risk you are from skin cancer so people are looking for new ways to achieve the same effect safely.
The fastest growing artificial tanning method is spray tanning which is generally carried out at a beauty salon. Whilst sun tan creams and lotions have been popular for many years, the spray tanning seems to give a more consistent and natural looking color.
In an effort to win even more followers, spray tanning manufacturers have developed systems where you can apply the tan at home. Irrespective of the system you decide to use, there are some steps you can use to improve the look of your fake tan.
To ensure a good clean body surface to work with, you will need to remove nay dead skin by exfoliation. If this isn't done, dead skin will gradually drop off leaving odd, light patches and spoil the effect. To complete this part of the preparation, the skin needs to be moist and ready to accept the tan so a good skin moisturizer will need to be applied all over.
Before applying a tan from a bottle or cream, ensure you are wearing gloves or the orange palms that will follow will give the game away. Lighter coats should always be applied to the joints and feet as they will appear darker, which is a dead giveaway that fake tan has been applied.
If you are using a spray tanning method than you will need an old towel to wipe any excess fluid to stop streaking. Always stays as still as possible after artificial tanning to allow time for the application to settle down and create an even coating.
The problem you will have afterwards during this drying time is what to wear because if you wear something expensive that you like, it will probably become stained and won't come off. If possible always choose clothing that is darker and possibly something that is old and won't matter if stain is left on it. If you remember these few rules you should find that alternative tanning systems can be very effective and look just like the real thing.
